Is enfranchisement, providing the right to vote, alone sufficient to erase seemingly deeply ingrained social class divisions? How many generations does it take?
If not, why isn't it? It hints that the seeming ultimate power in a democratic society, voting, is not enough power, which is profound.
Two large enfranchisements in America, prohibiting discrimination by race and by gender, seem to be very slow at making progress, if they are making progress at all. But it could be slow.
