Children, being new to the world, will perceive a toy as new even if its design is very old. Therefore, it is never necessary to be paying extra for a child's toy for its still enforceable intellectual property rights, i.e., it is still patented or copyrighted.
Nevertheless, toys with intellectual property surcharges seem dominate the market.
Counterarguments: Toys as education for today's world. Toys as status symbols. Toys for social group membership. New version of a toy is objectively better.
