Talented people exit the partnered dance scene. One possible reason (a surface reason covering underlying reasons) is it is no longer fulfilling.
Another possible reason is that the skill is applicable elsewhere and more fulfilling there. Particularly intriguing is whether following skill, which to a certain extent seems to be innate rather than learned, can be applied elsewhere.
Leading skill is probably too specialized to be directly applicable elsewhere, though indirectly to other physical activities, e.g., sport.
