Throw away everything about the prequels except that Anakin has no father, purely conceived by the Force. New prequel story:
The Jedi are presented as nearly invincible, especially with their combination of telekinesis, precognition, and mind tricks: everything else is "insignificant compared to the power of the Force". Facing down an entire planet or army or space armada is trivial for even a single Jedi. They can be defeated by only two things: the Sith and old age. There are more than two Sith around, perhaps roughly equal numbers as Jedi. (And the total number of both is perhaps not that large, because Anakin will eventually defeat them all in single combat.)
Both sides recognize Anakin is very special, inevitably destined to become far more powerful than them all. This is the arc of the prequels: a boy growing up to become a living god (Jesus Christ: The Lost Years), or more precisely, a god among gods. His choice between Light path or Dark path is complicated because of his nature. Perhaps Light and Dark are revealed to be not so different. There is eventually an epic series of battles in which Anakin defeats in single combat all other Jedi and Sith, except a few friends and acquaintances, perhaps people he sees useful to keep around.
For example, the Emperor he lets live perhaps for his political savvy, but only as a figurehead. Somewhere in their interesting relationship is the reason why he addresses him as "my Master". Maybe dom-sub, or a mechanism for Anakin to have his own power checked.
It is the Jedi (and Sith) being destroyed that necessitated constructing a Death Star, a way to maintain order, a task formerly done by the Jedi (and maybe also the Sith).
Anakin accomplishes his purpose, whatever it was that the will of the Force wanted him to do, his reason for existing. His power weakens with old age: soon it will be time to die. This leads into the original trilogy.
