Hypothesize that the mental processes involved in following in partner dance are the same mental processes of obedience illustrated in the Milgram experiment.
If true, it is curious the large range of time scales "just following orders" works on: following partner dance happens in latencies of milliseconds, military orders may get followed after weeks or years.
