Is the world made better by making small-format printers more widely available?
On one hand, the alternative is to hand write small amounts of information onto small pieces of paper. On the other hand, one could imagine printing barcodes with high information density.
Perhaps what we need is a standardized width of such printers so they may be easily scanned by standardized scanners.
Despite being small format, because they print off a roll, they can potentially print larger at least in one dimension than a regular printer using sheets of paper.
Dual problem: large-format printing.
