A player controls a band of pieces wandering around a large square lattice board. The pieces move roughly like chess pieces. The pawn moves one square orthogonally and attacks one square diagonally. The infinite range pieces might have their range limited.
Usually, the pieces move in real time, and there is no limitation of one move per turn. However, when a special battle mode is invoked, perhaps two assembled armies, the chess-like turn based movement returns.
Opposing armies consisting only of bishops of opposite color can pass right through each other.
