We can imagine science, or any academic pursuit of knowledge, being thwarted by a Catch-22: A viewpoint opposing the status quo fails to get positive peer review in order to get published. Funding for future research requires previous peer reviewed publication.
Does this phenomenon have an official name? When has it occurred historically? I suspect it happens even more frequently in disciplines outside science.
The "alternative medicine" people loudly proclaim it is happening now.
