[csccadwm] Timeless misinterpretation

Some works of art achieve greatness because they seem to capture a universal, timeless aspect of the human condition that transcends the original context and setting of the work.

Are there works which have achieved such greatness completely due to misinterpretation?  That the author or creator was not even remotely trying to depict a universal aspect of the human condition, but it only seems that way to those unfamiliar with the original setting and context?

"Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them."

Inspired by Don Quixote, and my ignorance of the context in which it was written.
