One can make useful things, or one can make pretty things. They are fundamentally philosophically different: one tries to change the world from what it currently is, while the other appeals the notions of prettiness in the current world. The forces of the status quo likely regard the former is dangerous.
Yet both are under the "maker" umbrella popular these days.
This dichotomy, if true, implies that there is less gray area in between than one might initially think.
