The food myth "carrots improve night vision", deliberately constructed as wartime propaganda falsehood to conceal the effectiveness of radar, has persisted for generations afterward. This is a damning critique that a culture respecting the free expression of ideas can ever reach truth, even in the seeming absence of censorship mechanisms. (Perhaps criticizing "eat your vegetables" is politically incorrect.)
It might also unfortunately justify that food libel cases should be made easier for the plaintiff to win.
