Speculate that an accident resulting in instant death of astronauts is deemed sufficiently humane for public relations, but an accident that involves astronauts slowly dying of asphyxiation or other exposure lost in space, perhaps even forced to commit suicide, is so gruesome that NASA will cover it up.
Further speculate that such accidents have already occurred. (Nearly so in Apollo 13) Tell a fictional story of the coverup. Enough eyes were on Apollo 11 to necessitate Nixon preparing a moon disaster speech, but perhaps not so for other missions.
I have no doubt that we put a man on the moon. I am more skeptical that we got all of them back. That moon-orbit rendezvous seems complicated. Someday soon, we may get a close look at all the landing sites. Only the Lunar Module Descent Stages should be remain.
The Russians say the crew of the Kursk died within hours despite evidence that they may have survived for days in air pockets with the use of potassium superoxide.
