People consume entertainment and end up memorizing things about it. Redirect this tendency for good: design entertainment so that the things people memorize are socially beneficial to be memorized.
What is that information? It is not necessarily personally beneficial (then it would be merely educational programming). Humans are being used as mules.
If libraries and other physical knowledge recording technologies were not so good, we could imagine entertainment as a way of backing up information into human brains. This was probably "oral tradition" back in the day.
