"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change..."  Seemingly a wise saying, but actually insidiously dangerous.

Those who accomplish great change all begin not knowing whether they will succeed.  Causing people to pause and perhaps mistakenly abandon an effort for positive change is a powerful mechanism to maintain the status quo.
