[vidldfyw] Redesigning stairs for hands

Redesign stairs assuming hands (and feet) will be used in going up and down them.  The goal is to decrease falls, especially among old people.  Constrain that the new method take up no more volume than stairs (or else you could substitute a long gentle ramp.)

Can we do better than handrails?  Maybe some jungle gym-like set up with many more hand holds.  Lower the center of gravity to decrease the distance of the fall: go up and down in a crouch or crawl.

Going down seems trickier to engineer than going up.  Face backwards?

If it does not need to be static, a bicycle / hand cycle powered chair lift.

If hands are required to be used, you cannot carry things in your hands while ascending or descending.
