Even if you are anti-science and anti-technology, you can still contribute to pure mathematics.

Why don't we see mathematical achievement coming out of weird places, like where Islamic fundamentalism dominates?  It would hark back to the days when Arab mathematicians were making the most important contributions, e.g., inventing algebra.
