If Nebraska's "mistake" 2008 safe haven law, which allowed parents to easily place into state custody a child of any age that they are unwilling or unable to care for, were in effect in Florida, Caylee Anthony might still be alive.
Other angry, and in my opinion, silly, proposals of Caylee's Law in the wake of the acquittal have mostly focused on increasing punishment for failing to report a missing child, not addressing the real issue, because it is uncomfortable.
The cold-hearted counterpoint is, it's worth it to sacrifice a few Caylee Anthonies so as not to put excessive strain on the welfare system.
