How do you know if the message from someone you know is really them, and not a hacked account or someone posing as them?
Use voice and video as authentication of messages. Simple methods: purely video or voice message (old school!), then maybe speech transcription. Or read the message you typed, maybe just the first few sentences. More complicated: voice print authentication, where the computer, not the recipient, identifies the voice.
So strange that the oldest of technologies is a good substitute for hard core cryptography! At least for now, though I've seen some nice examples of research on realistic synthesis of voice and video.
Facebook does not yet make it easy to post video or spoken items (from your own your computer's camera) on your wall. Lack of authentication leads to chaos when an account gets hacked.
