[gtojozbg] Ultimate photo faker

Take a photograph of a model in a pose in a scene.  Digitally replace the model with someone else (perhaps someone you wish to smear), using pictures from elsewhere, not even in the correct pose.  I predict, and in fact, hope, this technology will be cheaply in the hands of consumers in the next few years.  The key idea is the people generally look the same, enabling computer vision to have strong probabilistic priors.

Do the same with video.

We already see this in Hollywood special effects, for example in Titanic and in Christopher Lee's lightsaber scenes (which are old now!).

There will come a point where fake photos (and videos) outnumber the real, and our attitudes toward them will change: you (as a member of a grand jury or jury) can't trust them.  Perhaps the problem of surveillance everywhere will fade away.  It'll be like polygraph tests.
