The street level main front door of the apartment has a intercom and buzzer to electronically unlock the door.  Building on that, create a mechanical system that attaches to your end of the intercom, manipulating the talk, listen, and unlock buttons, which performs cryptographic challenge response, automatically unlocking the door if you can prove you are in possession of the private key.
