Create an open, unencumbered, standard spaceship for science fiction authors who don't want to design their own (they're more interested in the story that takes place on the ship): terminology for the parts, functions, procedures. Just a few configurable knobs, maybe ship size.
Star Trek already has this, but there's FUD with trademarks, licensing, and possible confusion with using Trek things in a story that isn't taking place in the Trek universe.
