Are the proton and neutron in a deuterium nucleus distinct? Or are they quantumly "in the same place" like electrons in a shell, their quarks merged into a 6 quark soup? Can a precisely aimable gun consistently hit the proton but not the neutron? Change the angle and hit the other?
Alpha particle (helium-4 nucleus)? If the nucleons are distinct, exactly what is the geometry of their arrangement?
