I wish there were an open source ecosystem for Android, like Debian. Why is there not?
Lack of money, i.e., major investment from e.g., IBM, Canonical, or RedHat into open source?
Lack of a good packaging, dependency, and distribution infrastructure?
Lack of an evangelist, e.g., Richard Stallman?
Not enough good libraries?
Lack of a good communication or coordination mechanisms between developers?
Poor programming tools?
All of the above seem solveable though hard. The conspiracy theorist in me is worried about the following: Deliberate and covert prevention by entities on behalf of closed source for-pay app developers?
