[hrvynidg] Facebook and Napster

Had the music industry not killed off peer-to-peer file sharing (e.g., Napster), we could have avoided the giant privacy disaster that is Facebook.  Instead, social networks would be built on top of the peer to peer network with each user controlling, and owning, his or her information.  What started as a way to share music files would have naturally expanded to a whole lot more.

There would be no central entity which has everyone's information, willing and able to sell it to the highest bidder.
