In these days of Unicode, we can completely banish transliteration from foreign alphabets or scripts for things like people and place names.  In parentheses, we can provide IPA pronunciation, since no one is expected to be able to read every language.

In the olden days of fixed type, ASCII, etc., it was understandable why everything had to be transliterated into Latin-1 characters, but this advancement of technology makes it unnecessary anymore.

For example the word "Beijing", or "Peking" for that matter, will never appear in English text; it will always be written inline as 北京 possibly accompanied by pronunciation (/beɪˈdʒɪŋ/).

It still remains challenging to enter a word in a foreign script you may not know, though cut and paste is your friend, and various forms of AI, including speech recognition, can help.
