Consider a two-window command-line user interface. In one window standard input and output are interleaved; the other consists of solely standard error.
Is there enough improvement (over the current state where all three are interleaved) to achieve something great?
The interaction style I imagine is the input/output window consists of the "mundane" interaction, while the error window is relatively static, only containing the "object" currently at the center of attention for the IO interaction.
Can we build a line editor much better than ed or ex?
What if graphics were permitted on the stderr window only?
