[didchhdp] Least Valuable Player 2009

NL: Pedro Martinez, Philadelphia (gave up 4th run in World Series Game 6 result 7-3)

AL: Joe Saunders, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (walked in 3rd run in ALCS Game 6 result 5-2). Let's assume it wasn't an intentional walk called for by manager Mike Scioscia.

2008 MLB Least Valuable Player

New idea: for each team, one can determine the moment of loss: the run in the loss that ultimately caused going over the threshold required to make the playoffs. For example, Kansas City ended the 2009 season at 65-97. But to have made the playoffs, they would have had to have lost at most 67 games (that would have tied with Boston for the wildcard spot). Kansas City lost its 68th game on Sunday, August 9, 2009, a 6-3 loss to Oakland at home. In that game, Oakland's 4th run, the run that ultimately decided the fate of the season, was a solo home run given up by Kansas City pitcher Luke Hochevar to Bobby Crosby in the top of the 2nd inning with 1 out and the count 0-0 (first pitch).
