Self-hosted applications
The developer of the Facebook Friend Wheel puts a small cap on the number of friends it can graph, citing the computational load on his server. But there is no reason the graph needs to be computed on his server; why not compute it on your own computer, where it's all right to spend minutes or hours computing if you have the patience? And you don't have to trust the developer of the Friend Wheel with the private information of all your friends and friends' friends.
