Google Search: region-active-p mark-active other people converting between xemacs and emacs

Today I've been yak-shaving going from XEmacs to Emacs in my .emacs configuration files. Things that have sucked: define-derived-mode doesn't do hooks. fortunately replaced by a bunch of define-key xx-mode-map, since all I was doing in the hooks was local-set-key. region-active-p is mark-active delete-char and delete-backward-char require arguments scroll-up-one doesn't exist recent-files is recentf delete-old-versions to get rid of the "delete excess?" message
