Consider limiting terms of political office to one term only. What would happen?
The goal is to avoid money from perverting politics. One can no longer contribute to a reelection campaign of an incumbent. Once elected, anyone who had contributed to the election campaign has no power over the elected official (via threats of withdrawing support).
Since no candidate will have a voting record, some other signaling mechanism would evolve to attempt to signal a good candidate.
Would other long-term power structures evolve, subverting this? Perhaps a "power factory" will produce figurehead candidates one after another. Similar, if not identical, to political parties today. Perhaps shadowy lifetime congressional staffers and Washington insiders would be pulling the strings, the real holders of power.
