[qwstjsij] Ice crystals evaporating off warm water in cold weather

The "steam" you see coming off a pot of hot water in a freezing environment is most likely tiny ice crystals, not tiny droplets of condensed water.  The two do look similar, both white mist.  How can one tell them apart?  How long does it take for a tiny floating droplet of condensed water to freeze?  The water can probably remain a supercooled liquid for a while.
